To follow up from my earlier post on Kane - The First Blood Son by Carol McKibben, I am posting my review on this truly interesting book.

So you want to know how vampires come to propagate on the earth? Read Kane by Carol McKibben. It's not dry reading, if that's what you're afraid of. We go through the story from Kane's point of view, a young man connected to the important de Medici family of Italy, and his passion for the pursuit of knowledge. We also get to see Da Vinci (the artist) in his work, as Kane was his assistant. As this is a prequel and I have not read the actual series, I'm excited to see if there would be further developments in their relationship. There has to be a reason for including DaVinci in the story - a foreshadow perhaps?
The story has twists and turns I didn't see coming, and while I love the inclusion of the other characters, I did feel as though some time should've been devoted to them so that we can know more about them. But maybe we'll see more in the next books.
The villain was kind of a cardboard character; there wasn't much on her or her minions. The story would've been much more interesting if the villain were fleshed out, but then this story would've been longer than it was.
All in all, a well written introduction to the series. I find Ms. McKibben's writing a bit unique - perhaps due to the nature of the series as well. This is definitely a plus and a welcome to book lovers like me. Will definitely check out the rest of the series!
