Book Review with $10 Giveaway: Silk & Scholar by Cassandra Dean

My Review

Fascinating and Alluring

Silk & Scholar is a short sweet story that will truly warm your heart. A perfect tale for all romance enthusiasts looking for a nice afternoon read.
I enjoyed the chemistry between the two leads. Etta Wilding-Marsh is an introvert, who has a passion for law at a time where women lawyers are unheard of. Such is her love for the profession that together with her friend, they sought out to revolutionize the industry and start a law school for women. What she didn't count on was falling in love... especially to Lord Christopher Hiddleston, the person who has antagonized her for 10 years sending unsolicited news clippings. But unknown to her, Lord Hiddleston has always stayed true to her. How their love for each other slowly blossomed throughout the book is truly a joy to read.
This is the first book that I have read from the author, but her writing was well done. This is book 4 of a series, but there was never any moment where I felt I needed to read the first 3 books. In fact, I am looking forward to check out the first 3 books.
Overall, I very highly recommend this! Pick it up! It's worth the money.

Book Tour with Giveaway: To Seduce A Stranger by Susanna Craig

TO SEDUCE A STRANGER
by Susanna Craig
Pub date: 4/11/2017
Genre: Historical Romance

Desire waylays the plans of a man with a mysterious past and a woman with an uncertain future, in Susanna Craig’s unforgettable series set in Georgian England.

After her much older husband dies—leaving her his fortune—Charlotte Blakemore finds herself at the mercy of her stepson, who vows to contest the will and destroy her life. With nowhere to turn and no one to help her, she embarks on an elaborate ruse—only to find herself stranded on the way to London. . .

More than twenty years in the West Indies have hardened Edward Cary, but not enough to abandon a helpless woman at a roadside inn—especially one as disarmingly beautiful as Charlotte. He takes her with him to the Gloucestershire estate he is determined to restore, though he is suspicious of every word that falls from her distractingly lush lips.

As far as Charlotte knows, Edward is nothing more than a steward, and there’s no reason to reveal his noble birth until he can right his father’s wrongs. Acting as husband and wife will keep people in the village from asking questions that neither Charlotte nor Edward are willing to answer. But the game they’re each determined to play has rules that beg to broken, when the passion between them threatens to uncover the truth—for better or worse. . .

When I began mapping out the Runaway Desires series, I imagined Edward Cary, the hero of To Seduce a Stranger, as its moral center. As we learn in To Kiss a Thief, Edward is the sort who proves that one man can make a difference in the world around him. And in To Tempt an Heiress, we’re told that Edward is “sober, honest, and humane.” Without question, he’s a good man.
But he’s also been keeping a dark secret for most of his life.
To Seduce a Stranger marks Edward’s return to England to claim both his true identity and his inheritance. He certainly doesn’t need the added complication of a desirable woman. Enter Charlotte, who has a few secrets of her own. Their performance as husband and wife tests Edward’s resolve at every turn.
One of my inspirations when writing this story was the BBC/PBS series, Poldark—I mean, who wouldn’t be inspired by a shirtless Aidan Turner wielding a scythe? Plus, the show beautifully captures the desperate circumstances of many at the close of the eighteenth century, as well as the dramatic scenery of Britain’s West Country, both important elements of To Seduce a Stranger. Like Edward, Ross Poldark (played by Turner) returns from abroad to find everything in turmoil. The estate he left behind has fallen into ruin, but he doesn’t shy away from the hard work that must be done to restore it. And just as Ross has Demelza (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) to help him, Edward has Charlotte. In each case, she might be entirely the wrong sort of woman for our hero, but sometimes, the wrong choice turns out to be oh-so-right!

A love affair with historical romances led Susanna Craig to a degree (okay, three degrees) in literature and a career as an English professor. When she’s not teaching or writing academic essays about Jane Austen and her contemporaries, she enjoys putting her fascination with words and knowledge of the period to better use: writing Regency-era romances she hopes readers will find both smart and sexy. She makes her home among the rolling hills of Kentucky horse country, along with her historian husband, their unstoppable little girl, and a genuinely grumpy cat

DANGEROUS INTERFERENCE is an awesome erotic suspense that kept me engaged from beginning to end. Well-written with excellent characterization, some of the hottest menage scenes I've ever read interlaced with emotional drama, Ms. Wane has penned yet another keeper. A definite must-read!

About BJ Wane

I live in the Midwest with my husband and our two dogs. I love dogs, enjoy spending time with my daughter, babysitting dogs and kids, reading and working puzzles. We have traveled extensively throughout the states, Canada and just once overseas, but I much prefer being homebody. I worked for a while writing articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself peaking. My first book was strictly spanking erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic romance with an emphasis on spanking. My favorite genre to read is Romantic Suspense.

About Amelia James

Author Pic
When I was in the third grade, my teacher wrote ‘tends to daydream’ on my report card. What did she expect from a girl raised on fairy tales? I’m convinced those fanciful stories led to the romance novel addiction I acquired in junior high. My mom caught me reading a particularly hot one and took it away from me. She couldn’t stop me from daydreaming though, and after I got married, I wrote some of my steamier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine. Two of them were published. I kept writing and eventually my short stories became romance novels.
I live in Colorado now, but I’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When I’m not lusting after my next bad boy hero, I’m looking for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, morally ambiguous lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks. Characters—the ever-present voices in my head—bring my books to life. They’re my imaginary friends.
We all need to get away from reality for a little while. I prefer to escape with a sizzly, sexy, forever romance.

Highly recommend! Romance novels aren't normally my niche, but this book was fantastic! It had a romantic undertone but the plot was enthralling and magical. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in just a few days. ... Truly a gem and pleasure to read! I can't wait for volume 2...
- Jessica Baldridge, Goodreads Reviewer
Helen takes on paranormal romance from a fresh angle, combining mythologies rather than painting herself into a single modal corner. She has opened a world with endless possibilities, that I for one cannot wait to see where it goes next.

DIY Romance

A few years into our marriage, my husband and I discovered we really enjoy working on small projects together. Neither of us is handy or crafty, but we always have a lot of fun figuring things out. In fact, I think it’s because neither one of us is great at what we’re doing that we enjoy the process. He’s a research scientist, I’m a writer, and our approach to projects is completely different. But somehow we get things done. It’s so easy to get caught up in routines and to stop thinking about the teamwork that goes into making our lives work... But when we work on something new together, we’re once again humbled, appreciative, and amused by the other’s thought process. It makes our relationship feel like our projects; something old made new again. Here are before and after pics of a small project we completed a few years ago. The previous owners of our house left a rotted, rusty bench behind. We used some wood that was also left behind and then cut, sanded, painted, and put it all together. Our recycled bench was far from perfect, but we had a lot of fun working on it. For the few years it lasted, whenever we sat on it together, we felt close in more ways than one. When it fell apart right under us last spring, we got another good laugh out of it. The project was worth the memories.  In my new book, Perfect Paige, the hero and heroine are also complete opposites. At first, they can’t stand each other. But when they find they have no choice but to work together to keep Paige’s ex-husband out of jail, they learn they make a great team in more ways than one. And because giving new life to old things is a favorite theme of mine, in the end, the answers they’re looking for will be found with the help of ghosts from the pasts and inside something old made new again.

Ines Saint was born in Zaragoza, Spain. She’s bilingual and bicultural and has spent the last ten years raising her fun, inspiring little boys and sharing her life with the man of her dreams, who also happens to be her best friend and biggest cheerleader. Her greatest joys are spending quality time with family and close friends.

Book Review: Unexpected Rewards by Jane McGarry

My Review

Great Story and Superb Writing

Unexpected Rewards has all the elements of an endearing story amidst a historical backdrop. Combine this with great writing from the author and you have a book that's unputdownable! I truly enjoyed reading every part of the story.
The female lead, Olivia, is someone that I find myself rooting for throughout the story. She is quite a loveable lead -- a girl with a pure heart, having noble intentions, but is a newcomer in kingdom and kingdom politics. Faced with different odds that seem to come one after the other, she has to find ways to overcome each one -- from fending off others who are determined to disrupt her love with Prince Liam, to having to gain the respect of the King and the Queen, and even to prove the innocence of a close friend.
I also enjoyed the story writing -- it was easy to follow, interesting with no dull moments. I realized much later that this is book 2 of a series, but there was never any confusing moment and you could have just as easily read this as a standalone. Also since this is being told from a first person narrative, i.e. Olivia's point of view, we aren't privy to the King's, Queen's and even Prince Liam's thoughts; so there was a bit of suspense that I find welcoming and added to the intrigue in the story.
All in all, a great read! Highly recommended, and I can't wait to check out the next book in the series.
Rating: 5 Stars

She fully expects to continue her knightly training while enjoying a blossoming romance with her Prince. The King, however, has other ideas, appointing her as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Helen.

With the help of her new friend, Kat, and her sister, Anne, she tries to find her footing among the courtiers, their protocol, and the added complication of Jocelyn Crawford, a lady who has her eyes set on becoming Liam’s bride.
When, a disturbing prophecy puts the safety of the King in question, fear spreads through kingdom. Intrigue abounds at the palace with an enigmatic witch and a strict Friar at the center of the controversy. Olivia must use her training and instincts to unravel what is truly going on in order to protect the King. Through it all, she questions if she will ever be able to fit into Liam’s life and if, in the end, their love can prevail.
