The world could be transformed if Riley can only stay alive long enough.

Retired SEAL, private eye, and leader of a diving and salvage team, Dagger promises to protect Riley with his life. Excerpt

Riley gazed at the clock next to her bed for the tenth time in the past twenty minutes. She was mentally exhausted, yet her mind refused to shut down and let her rest. She closed her eyes and willed herself to sleep.
Crreeeak…
She sat up ramrod straight and listened in the darkness. She strained to hear any other sound out of place.
The crickets and frogs chirruped. Off in the distance a red fox cried out—exactly like a woman screaming. Then a scraping sound…so close.
The crickets and frogs abruptly stopped.
She held her breath, one, two, three, heartbeats.
The chirruping returned.
Slipping both legs out from under her covers, she placed her feet on the floor as soundlessly as possible. Slowly shifting her weight, she stood up and tiptoed to the door. She crept out of her room and headed for the stairs where she stopped and listened.
It was a moonless night, and she couldn’t see more than a few feet, but growing up in this house she felt comfortable moving in the near blinding darkness.
She moved onto the first stair and stopped. Making sure of her footing she skipped the next stair knowing it would squeak and gracefully landed on the one below. All the while keeping her hands away from the shaky banister that her dad had promised to fix years ago. She continued down the remining stairs, stepping only on the solid treads. She moved toward the front door. The security system wasn’t active. Had she set it before bed? She couldn’t remember. Cracking the door open she slipped out into the night.
Out of nowhere, a massive hand covered her mouth and an arm wrapped around her waist. She tried to scream, but the man yanked her back and knocked the wind from her lungs.

The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci
THE GIRL WHO KNEW DA VINCI
Belle Ami
Series: Out of Time Series Book 1
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Thriller
Publisher: Tema N Merback
Publication Date: May 31, 2018
What she knows could kill her.
In the spirit of The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown and Shadows of the Stone Benders by K. Patrick Donoghue The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci by Belle Ami unravels an unforgettable mystery.
Three destinies, one remarkable painting.
Will her visions lead her to the truth?
Art historian Angela Renatus is haunted by dreams of Leonardo da Vinci and a mysterious painting of Giuliano Medici and his mistress Fioretta Gorini. A painting that, as far as the world knows, doesn’t exist. Compelled by her visions, Angela is determined to find out the truth.
When Angela is contacted by art detective, Alex Caine, she’s shocked to learn that he too is seeking the same painting. Alex’s client, a wealthy German financier, is determined to clear the name of his late uncle, Gerard Jaeger, an art historian, who went missing in Florence, during World War II. In letters written before his disappearance, the historian describes his love affair with a beautiful young Italian woman named Sophia Caro, and the discovery of an extraordinary painting by the great master himself—a painting depicting Giuliano and Fioretta.
Alex and Angela journey to Florence in search of the priceless treasure. Is it a lost da Vinci, potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars, or a wild goose-chase that will only lead to a dead end? But someone else is searching for the illusive painting—Alberto Scordato is a powerful man in the art world and a sociopath who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even murder. Scordato knows something about Angela that even she doesn’t know, something that could threaten both Angela and Alex’s lives, forcing them into the crosshairs of fate.

Review

I had to admit I was slightly misled by the initial statement on the blurb, as there was a reference on The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. The Girl Who Knew DaVinci however, with a paranormal backdrop to the overall plot, is undoubtedly fiction and the genre leans more towards the romantic element than on the thriller side.
After recalibrating my expectations for the book, I can say I actually found the book interesting. Romance lovers will definitely be entertained. I especially found the romantic build-up excellently written and quite hot!
The pacing of the story and shifting from one timeline to another was well written and easy to follow. I'm not really sure how Angela is able to transcend to her previous life, but I believe the paranormal nature of the story does not require a scientific explanation.
I find Angela's character realistic and loveable, though she does come out as a bit vulnerable. Enter Alex, the male lead. In contrast though, I find Alex's back story a bit lacking, and wished this portion could be expounded further.
Overall, this is a nice novel following the popularity that The DaVinci Code generated. But don't be misled like I was...this is in fact totally original, totally unique and totally refreshing.

Excerpt

I can barely speak now the waterworks are choking me, and my throat is tight from the pain I feel. I hear a knock on the door. I rush into my bathroom. I overhear voices. Eventually, I hear a knock on my bathroom door. God, I hope it’s not Brad. Shit.
“Marcy? It’s Will. Open the door.”
“How did you know I was in my room?”
“I noticed you leaving rapidly and Rachel following you. I knew you must’ve gotten her to talk—my lovely, big mouth future fiancée.”
“Don’t blame her. I actually figured it out on my own.”
“Figures…you’re as good as Liam always said. I’m sorry, honey.”
“You lied to me, didn’t you? You told me he knew how much I loved him, but he didn’t. He thought he was a moment of weakness and anger. The only reason I’d ever be with him was because I was hurt and devastated by Brad breaking my heart. That’s what he said, isn’t it? That’s what that bastard said. I can’t tell you how angry that makes me. If I saw him right now, I’d slap him across his face so hard…”
“Marcy, I didn’t lie to you, honey. I promise you. Those things Rachel told you he said were before. That was the day you called. What I told you happened later.”
“You’re saying he finally did accept it and realize how much I loved him?” I ask with tears still drowning my eyes and face.
“Yes, he finally did, but then…”
“I see. Rachel said you begged him to call me and explain it was her that answered the phone that morning.”
“I did, and I did more than that.”
“She told me you almost had a physical confrontation with him.”
“I see she told you a lot of things. Marcy, I know how good you were for him. Him leaving you was the stupidest thing he’s ever done and that’s saying a lot because he’s done a lot of stupid things. He’s just so stubborn. I couldn’t make him see what a mistake he was making. Even Rachel tried to talk to him, and she was scared to death of him when he was angry.”
“Yeah, I know how she felt. It took me a long while to stand up to him. Now, I’d like to see him. Now, I wouldn’t care how angry he got. I’d kick him where the sun doesn’t shine.”
Will grins. “I believe you would. I wish there was something I could say or do to ease your pain. That’s why I didn’t want you to know these things. I knew it wouldn’t help.”
Actually, you’re wrong in one respect. Knowing it was Rachel who picked up the phone that morning helps me more than you realize.”

About Linda Burson

Linda Burson
Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was a teenager. She started out writing memoirs and continued writing by attempting several nonfiction pieces.
After attending college, pursuing other interests, and traveling, a lot of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.
After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.
After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.
In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing notes about how her novel would progress. After that, the writing began and it never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.
When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”
Linda is now in the process of writing a new thriller novel, a short story, and has just completed a mystery called Murder Among Friends, which is due to be published April 15, 2018. Her seventh book in the MARCY SERIES is due to be released mid 2018.

Book Review: Hiding by Jenny Morton Potts

Book Info

Genre: Thriller
Keller Baye and Rebecca Brown live on different sides of the Atlantic. Until she falls in love with him, Rebecca knows nothing of Keller. But he’s known about her for a very long time, and now he wants to destroy her.
This is the story of two families. One living under the threat of execution in North Carolina. The other caught up in a dark mystery in the Scottish Highlands. The families’ paths are destined to cross. But why? And can anything save them when that happens?

My Review

Gripping and Intense!

Hiding is a gripping thriller that got more and more intense the more the story progressed. I admit feeling the pace of the story was a bit slow at the beginning, but if you manage to get over this (as you definitely should), you'll find it very rewarding as the story caught on to the present.
What I really liked:
  • STORY - I really liked how the author laid out all the pieces of the story, all seemingly unconnected in the beginning. There were many times I felt: "what's the point of telling this backstory in such detail other than to let us know where the character was coming from?" But like jigsaw puzzles, the author expertly weaved together all the loose ends and tied them all up towards the end. You'll definitely feel super amazed at the realization why the author included all the backstory in the beginning. It's brilliant! Now that I think about it, you can't really miss any portion or you'll be left wondering in the end where this person/thing/event came from.
  • REBECCA BROWN - The author started writing Rebecca's life when she was still a child at 10 years old. I felt this shows her innocence to the whole situation, unaware of the history and the gravity of what transpired in the past. Rebecca on all accounts did not exactly have a model childhood, nor does she have the ideal character that we want our kids to emulate, but without this vivid backstory, we wouldn't have understood her as much. I would say this fragile innocence in her is what drew me to her and got me rooting for her. I would have liked a bit more story on her present life though, just to get us to know her even further.
What Could Have Been Better (For Me)
  • ENDING: Ok firstly, to clear things up: I would say this is probably one of the best ending I've read in a while! Having said that, there's a lot of frustrations that went through my mind the first time I read it...frustrations in a good way. It's befitting of the whole story, yet...I want more! Enough said. Please get a copy and read this. It's totally worth it!
  • NARRATION: I felt the story had a bit more narration than I would have preferred. This made some portions dry for me. I usually prefer more dialogues and interactions, which probably would have increased the value of the story further. In retrospect though, this takes nothing away from the whole story.
Overall, I would rate this a 4.5 stars! I would definitely look out for future books from this author.

An Excerpt from the Book

Take an inside look at Vengeance. Read this sizzling excerpt from the book.
Tel Aviv, Israel
September 12th
5 a.m.
New York time 10 p.m. September 11th
Cyrus’ cell phone rang, waking him from a dream of making love to his wife. He glanced at the clock—five a.m. Not good.
His throat was glued shut. He squeezed out, “Yes?”
“Cyrus, I’m sorry to call with such devastating news.”
It was Rafi, the director of Mossad’s Americas’ desk. A chill crept up Cyrus’ spine.
“I just got a call from New York. There’s been an attack.” Rafi’s voice came tense and strained…the act of speech seemed to produce immeasurable pain.
Cyrus’ heart pounded as if a regiment of infantry stampeded on his chest. His voice barely above a whisper. “What happened?”
“A bomb exploded in a restaurant…near the Museum of Modern Art. Probably a hundred or more people have been killed. Avi Zaken was there. We assume he’s dead.”
“Oh, my God, they got the consul general. Layla’s going to be devastated. She’s very fond of Avi.”
“About Layla.” Rafi’s voice softened. “Her name is on his calendar. His dinner appointment. I’m so sorry, Cyrus.”
Cyrus’ blood froze, and his heart refused to beat. It took every ounce of his strength to hold it together. He held the phone in a death grip. “How do we know she was in the restaurant? Have you checked with her security detail? Maybe there’s been a mistake.”
“Layla released them earlier in the day—”
“Why would she?” He closed his eyes. “Shit. Shit. Shit, that sounds like Layla.”
He fought to steady his voice. “Anything else?”
“The FBI’s tracking down museum security to see who saw her leave. I can’t tell you for certain if she was in the restaurant, but in all likelihood, she was there. God…” Rafi’s voice cracked. “This is such a fucking disaster. I hate to be the bearer of such news.”
“This can’t be right?”
“Cyrus, it’s all over the news. The FBI’s calling it terrorism. We’ve already requested inclusion in the case. The prime minister’s up in arms. He’s adamant this attack will not go unanswered. He’s called for an emergency meeting at the Office, but given the circumstances…if you feel you can’t—”
Cyrus interrupted him. He struggled to control the scream climbing up his throat. I need to keep it together. “No, I’ll be there as soon as I can. What about Aleck, Layla’s father, has anyone notified him? I can’t—I mean—I don’t think I could handle talking to him right now.”
“Dodi’s calling him.”
The prime minister. Good. “I’m on my way.” He hung up and stared at his cell phone, feeling the walls close in around him.
Layla. Dead. Layla. Dead. Layla. Dead. The words burned into his brain like a firestorm leaving nothing but ashes.
Impossible. No warning. No premonition. Nothing but emptiness. Shouldn’t I have felt something?
“Noooo!” He roared with grief. He howled, keening like a wild beast. Everything of beauty in the world dead or dying.
Layla. Dead. And it was his fault. He should have kept her from going. I’m the target. It’s me they want. Oh, dear God, what have I done? Why didn’t you take me?
There was no way he could live without her. He wanted to kill someone—something—anything that might stop the pain. He thought about the Jericho pistol in his drawer. He wanted to hold the shiny, black, instrument of death to the head of her killers. He wanted to pull the trigger. He wanted to see blood gush, brains splatter—he wanted revenge.

by Carolyn Arnold
Genre: Crime Mystery, Thriller

All that remains are whispers of the past…

When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case.

With no quick means of identifying the victims, building a profile of this serial killer is proving more challenging than usual. How is the killer picking these victims? Why are their limbs being severed and bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this killer to murder?

The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: the killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…

**Can easily be read as a standalone!!**

Genre: Crime Mystery, Thriller

Steve Wade is an ex-cop with an ex-wife and girlfriends he could never commit to. Now he’s a private investigator known for his knack in solving crimes.
This handsome private eye never has a problem finding customers. His newest case involves five frantic Mah Jongg players who are in search of one of their players who disappeared after meeting a man on an Internet dating site.
Wade is reluctant to take the case, believing it to be just another woman not wanting to be found. But the Mah Jongg players are insistent that Marilou did not vanish on her own. In the meantime, they organize a Valentine’s speed-dating gig inviting all the suspects who dated Marilou in an attempt to find her.
As he watches the dinner play out he begins to realize she may not have gone willingly when all the suspects are before him. He even hires his sometime drop-dead gorgeous girlfriend for the event to lure the culprit out into the open. Steve just hopes no one goes home with a potential killer.
Wade has to work fast as the case begins to unravel when lies and betrayal become evident and the truth of what happened to Marilou becomes clear. Will he be able to find the suspect before they choose another victim? This may be his biggest challenge yet.

The Missing Housewife
A Steve Wade Mystery Book 2

Steve Wade is an ex-cop and now private investigator. His reputation for solving crimes is growing.
His newest client is a man charged with a murder he says he did not commit. The convict's sister has evidence that the person he supposedly murdered is alive and living somewhere in Shanghai after an old classmate of hers sees a double of the murdered victim while touring parts of Asia.
Is the murder victim, a woman, really alive and the man charged with her murder innocent?
Steve does not know what to think. Should he believe a convicted killer who was once a drug addict living on the streets? Steve however does not want an innocent man to spend the rest of his life in jail.
It's a dilemma he must think through and to try to prove the convicted murderer's innocence.
